LG NanoCell’s 4K Ultra HD TV lineup offers consumers a wide range of home entertainment options. As has already become a tradition, the new models meet the needs of consumers, updating the corresponding positions of the LV of the twentieth year. But many interesting options and technologies have also been added.
The main differences between LG NanoCell 2021 and 2020 are the use of the updated webOS 6.0 platform, the new Alpha processor (4th generation), the new Magic Remote and of course the updated design. NanoCel TVs have become noticeably thinner. In this review, we’ll take a closer look at how 2021 LG NanoCell TVs differ from each other. This comparison will help those looking to buy the LG NanoCell.
LG NanoCell 2021 TVs differences
First of all, we note that almost all 2021 Nano Cell TVs are constructed on the basis of IPS matrices, with the rare exception of the NANO77 series and 50-inch models built on VA matrices . This ensures that color accuracy is maintained at virtually unfolded viewing angles. HDR mode on all models is represented by the HLG and HDR10 Pro standards.
In terms of design, all NanoCells have thin bezels. Smart features also do not differ from model to model, regardless of price. Supports all LG NanoCel TVs and voice control. Everyone knows how to receive both terrestrial and satellite channels. The entire line has a lot in common, but there are also differences in NanoCell from series to series.
Matrix and backlight
In 2021, in the NanoCell lineup, two series of TVs have a resolution of 8K (LG NANO996PB, LG NANO966PA / LG NANO956PA), i.e. 7680 x 4320 pixels. The rest of the series – with 4K resolution, i.e. 3840 x 2160. The color depth of all panels is 10 bits. But in the entry-level series LG NANO75 / NANO77 and LG NANO80 / NANO81, 10-bit depth is synthesized from 8 bits by time dithering (FRC).
One of the main differences between NanoCells is the type of LED backlighting. TVs of the 7th use Direct LED backlighting, in the 8th series it is side (Edge Lit), and in the 9th series of LG NanoCell – FALD, i.e. full array direct backlight with local dimming. In the latter case, you can achieve a higher contrast of the image, more precisely controlling the distribution of the backlight.
Processor and HFR
The ability to play content at a high frame rate (100/120 fps) is determined by the technical parameters of the image processor. The hierarchy of chips from series to series was preserved in 2021, only now it is the 4th generation. LG 8K TVs use the 4th Generation α9 AI processor.
The mid-range 4K TVs NANO85, NANO86, NANO90 and NANO92 are powered by the α7 Gen4 AI processor. The younger series NANO75, NANO77, NANO80 and NANO81 are built on a conventional 4-core LM21A processor. Therefore, they process HFR content. 8K models accept HFR from any source. NanoCell 4K mid-range – HDMI only.
Panel refresh rate
The refresh rate of the image on the screen is also an important factor for comparing TVs with each other. Among LG NanoCell 8K 2021 models, only the 86th diagonal of the 99th series has a 120Hz refresh rate. NANO96 and NANO95 refresh the image at 60Hz. Among nano-fishers with 4K resolution, the NANO85… NANO92 models have a frequency of 120 Hz.
All minor series have 60 Hz panels. Alpha 9 and Alpha 7 TVs support AMD FreeSync, VRR and ALLM. LG NANO75 TV … NANO81 is only ALLM.
Audio system
The difference between the LG nano TV series from each other is mainly in the number of speakers. Hence the differences in power output and supported audio technologies. The difference between NanoCell 2021 8K is that NANO99 uses a 4.2 sound scheme with a subwoofer and four speakers, while NANO95 and NANO96 use a 2.2 sound scheme with a subwoofer and two speakers. The power is respectively 20 W + 4 x 10 W and 20 W + 2 x 10 W.
NANO90 and NANO92 use a similar 2.2 sound configuration. All other NanoCell TVs use the 2.0 configuration, i.e. without a subwoofer. All support Dolby Atmos, with the exception of those using the regular 4-core processor. Those. except for the NANO75 … NANO81 series.
Connections
Finally, the choice of a TV is influenced by its switching capabilities. NanoCell TV 2021 differ in the number of HDMI and USB connectors. 8K NanoCells have 4 HDMI v.2.1 ports. NANO85, NANO86 , NANO90, NANO92 have 2 HDMI v.2.1 ports and 2 HDMI v.2.0 ports. NANO80, NANO81 have four HDMI 2.0 ports, NANO75, NANO76, NANO77 – three. The “older” series have 3 USB connectors, the younger ones (on a regular 4-core chip) – 2 each.
Comparison LG NanoCell 2021:
In conclusion, the LG NanoCell TVs in 2021 are not that much different from the LG 2020 model year. But still, albeit small, but there are differences. And since only new models will be on sale in the near future, for the convenience of choosing the NanoCell TV, we have brought their differing characteristics into a single table. We hope this will help you choose the one that suits you best.
