In 2023, LG has significantly reduced its QNED TV lineup. All models of the 9th series have disappeared from the list – these are both 8K TVs and 4K TVs with a top-end local dimming system. Whether this is due to tightening energy regulations in the EU or sluggish sales of expensive Mini LED models, the fact remains that only three LG 2023 QNED TV lines remain, among which the QNED75 is new.
As a reminder, LG’s premium LCD TVs use Quantum Dot’s patented NanoCell Color technology to reproduce rich, accurate and extremely lifelike colors for an unforgettable and highly immersive viewing experience. In addition, some 2023 QNED TVs have a slimmer design than their predecessors and are more compatible with LG’s new soundbars. Below we will find out what is the difference between LG QNED 2023 TVs from each other.

LG QNED TVs differences (2023)
Differences between QNED 2023 and QNED 2022
Let us briefly highlight the main differences between LG QNED 2023 and LG QNED 2022. They relate, firstly, to the development of intelligent TV functions and video signal processing algorithms. In the new line, the webOS 23 operating system and the 6th generation of Alpha processors are responsible for this (was: webOS 22 and α AI Processor 4K Gen5). Secondly, the QNED86 and QNED87 series are equipped with QNED Million Gray Scale Block Dimming technology.
These models have 64 times better contrast than their predecessors, reaching one million dynamic gradations. Thirdly, the QNED80, QNED81 and QNED82 2023 series have become thinner by 2 cm. This is a significant change. Finally, the DTS decoder has returned to the QNED 2023 model.
What LG QNED 2023 has in common
Before we talk about the differences, let’s note what is common to all 2023 QNED TV series from LG. Perhaps the main thing that these TVs have in common is that all their smart functions are supported by the webOS 23 operating system . This includes voice control from a remote control with identical assistants, and support for LG ThinQ AI, and the new Matter smart home standard, which allows devices to interact regardless of the brand. All TVs have the same remote control. All have ALLM mode and the same Game Dashboard & Optimizer. And now about the main thing: what are the differences between QNED.
Matrix and backlight
All QNED 2023 series are 4K TVs, i.e. 3840 x 2160. Most of them traditionally use IPS type matrices. But the company is increasingly using VA matrices in some models, which have a much higher contrast ratio. What are these models? We are talking about the QNED75, QNED76, QNED80 , QNED81 and QNED82 series. All their TVs with a diagonal of 43″ and 50″ have unambiguously VA matrices. The 65″ and 75″ models in these series can use both types of sensors.
As for the backlight, only the older LG QNED85, QNED86 and QNED87 series have exactly the Mini LED backlight, controlled using the Precision Dimming algorithm. The rest of the series uses Edge LED backlighting with the Dimming Pro algorithm. There is an exception here as well. Diagonal 86″ series QNED81 and QNED82 work with Precision Dimming.

All QNED 2023 series are 4K TVs, i.e. 3840 x 2160. Most of them traditionally use IPS type matrices.
Processor and refresh rate
All QNED 2023 TV series from LG are built on α7 AI Processor 4K Gen6 processors. The exception is the new QNED75 series, which is based on the α5 AI Processor 4K Gen6. The frequency of updating the matrix itself is distributed according to the same principle. All panels are 120Hz, and only the QNED75 has a 60Hz refresh rate, as it was not intended to be used as a gaming TV.
Video processing and HDR
In 2023, QNED Color technology is responsible for video signal processing in LG QNED TVs. The top-end QNED85 … QNED87 uses its Pro version, which provides 100% color volume. This means that even at maximum brightness, the colors do not lose their saturation. In the younger series QNED75 … QNED82, the color volume is also quite decent, but dark shades are not displayed so well due to low contrast. All QNED series work with HDR content, but Dolby Vision is only available in QNED85 … QNED87.
Sound
Here, the difference between QNED 2023 lies in the fact that LG QNED75, QNED80 and QNED81/82 have a two-channel sound scheme (except for 86″ diagonal with 2.2 scheme), while all other QNED 2023 models use 2.2CH scheme. Similarly, the lower QNED series have a sound power of 20 watts versus 40 watts for the older series with Mini Ice, which also has Dolby Atmos support.
Connections
In 2023, nothing has changed in relation to the connection scheme of QNED TVs compared to 2022. The QNED75 series only has HDMI 2.0 ports on board because, as we mentioned above, it was not intended to be used with modern game consoles. All other LG 2023 QNED TVs use a mixed layout – two HDMI 2.0 ports and two HDMI 2.1 ports.
