What’s the difference between Samsung 2021 and 2020 TVs?

After another presentation by Samsung, where the company told details about its new line of Samsung 2021 TVs, it was possible to find out some nuances that were not previously known. If we compare the Samsung TV lineup of 2021 and 2020, then the differences are immediately visible.

Differences between Samsung TVs 2021 and 2020

Factory Calibration

NEO’s flagship QLED TVs are professionally calibrated right from the factory! These high quality factory calibrated TVs include the following series: QN90A , QN95A , QN800A and QN900A .

Expert Calibration is intended to optimize the display of the picture, and this is very much appreciated. Before proceeding, we should note right away that there is no way to check the quality yet due to the lack of models on sale. All information below is written according to the manufacturer’s words.

Maximum brightness of flagship TVs

The leader in brightness is the new QN900A 8K NEO QLED TV, which should bring that figure to 4000 nits. The 65-inch version of the same QN900A TV is 3000 nits. The entry-level 8K QN800A has a peak brightness of 2000 nits.

The QN95A (4K) and QN90A (4K) series have the same brightness. The only exception is the 50-inch QN90A, which has a maximum brightness of 1500 nits. The QN85A NEO QLED series delivers 1500 nits of performance for all screen sizes.

Samsung QE50QN90A @ 100 Hz

Unlike previous models, the flagship QN90A (4K NEO QLED) series is now also available in 50 inches. Those who prefer a smaller screen size, for example, due to the small size of the room, will be delighted with this new addition.

In addition, this 50 “QE50QN90A TV is the only model to be less than 55” at 100Hz. Thus, the device is more than ready for PC games on the new game consoles PS5 , Xbox Series X , Xbox Series S.

Cable length for One Connect Box 2021

The QN95A (4K) and QN800A and QN900A (8K) models use the new Slim One Connect Box. A 2.5 meter cable and a short 15 cm cable are included with 8K TVs. The latter may be needed so that you can attach the box directly to the back of the stand.

This is practical for those who prefer a direct-to-TV connection. In addition, there is an additional 5-meter cable for all TVs, but this must be purchased separately. It should also be noted that in 2021 the cable is no longer so “invisible”. He’s definitely visible.

HDMI 2.1 ports quantity

All TV models above the Q60A series have at least one HDMI 2.1 input. The Samsung Q60A only has HDMI 2.0 due to the 50Hz panel. If you thought Samsung would go all-in with its 2021 TV lineup for HDMI 2.1, then unfortunately you have to be disappointed. Most NEO QLED TVs only have one HDMI 2.1 input, which should be enough for most users.

The need for a second input will only be when two game consoles (PS5 and Xbox Series X) and / or PC need to be connected to the TV at the same time. Even so, it won’t be a big tragedy. After all, most games on consoles don’t have data like 4K @ 120Hz.

Typically 4K @ 60Hz and 1,440 / 1080p @ 120Hz. Games with these parameters work fine over HDMI 2.0. From the QN95A series and up (that is, with the Slim One Connect Box), Samsung ships “full hardware” with four HDMI 2.1 connectors.

• Q60A: 3x HDMI 2.0
• Q70A: 1x HDMI 2.1 / 3x HDMI 2.0
• Q80A: 1x HDMI 2.1 / 3x HDMI 2.0
• QN85A: 1x HDMI 2.1 / 3x HDMI 2.0
• QN90A: 1x HDMI 2.1 / 3x HDMI 2.0
• QN95A: 4 HDMI 2.1
• QN800A: 4 HDMI 2.1
• QN900A: 4 HDMI 2.1

Prices for Samsung Micro-LED TVs with diagonals 110 and 99 inches

First, it should be noted that the start date of sales of Micro-LED TV from Samsung in Europe with a diagonal of 110 and 99 inches is scheduled for mid-summer 2021. Both models are supplied in regular packaging but with a hook system. It will take several people to install such giants. The 110-inch model costs 150,000 euros and the 99-inch model costs 130,000 euros.

One can only hope that Samsung’s streamlined manufacturing process will make screens smaller. In this case, Samsung Micro-LED TVs will become at least slightly affordable. Micro-LED TVs with a diagonal of 110 and 99 inches have One Connect Box 2018 release. The innovation lies only in the HDMI 2.1 interfaces .

Since Samsung TVs with micro-LED backlighting can only be used for wall mounting (at least on 110 “and 99” models), it is more expedient to connect them via remote patching. Since the micro LED TV has its own power supply, Samsung uses a single connection box option.

8K NEO QLED Quad Screen Televisions

If desired, 8K NEO QLED TVs (QN900A and QN800A) can display four signal sources at the same time, that is, each signal with 4K resolution. Unfortunately, this function cannot process four signals in parallel from four sources connected via HDMI.

For example, HDMI input plus linear TV, APP and mobile mirroring can be used. On the other hand, Micro-LED TV has 4VUE function. In this case, four HDMI signals can actually be displayed simultaneously on the TV screen. With 4 consoles, it is possible to have a split screen TV!

Height-adjustable The Frame and Q60A

The QLED TVs with side feet Q60A and The Frame 2021 are height adjustable. This convenience allows the TVs to optimally adapt to the height of the various soundbars.

The Frame with One Connect Box just slimmer

The Frame TVs in 2021 will again ship with the old One Connect Box (2019/2020 version). However, these models do not require their own power supply. The Frame really lives up to its name in 2021 because the depth of the structure has been reduced from 45mm to 25mm. Thus, the model has become even closer to the format of a regular picture on the wall.
