Bowers & Wilkins, continuing its partnership with Volvo Cars, announces a proprietary High Fidelity Sound audio system in the Volvo EX90.
The all-electric Volvo EX90 SUV will feature Bowers & Wilkins’ High Fidelity Sound technology as an optional extra for discerning drivers. The system consists of 25 speakers, including those with patented Continuum cones, as well as the latest iteration of Tweeter-on-Top technology.
By placing the tweeter in a separate housing at the top of the dashboard, Bowers & Wilkins engineers were able to reduce coloration and acoustic reflection from the windshield. This improves overall clarity for the listener, providing detailed and realistic sound. In addition, the system is complemented by Dolby Atmos decoding.
Bowers & Wilkins equipment follows the Volvo Cars design language flawlessly, with a unique brushed stainless steel grill design with double engraving and embossed brand logo, set in illuminated wood panels. This dual etch technology provides what B&W claims is “the highest level of acoustic transparency.”
The B&W audio equipment in the Volvo EX90 lives up to what Bowers & Wilkins calls “true sound”. Dan Shepherd, Senior Director of Automotive Partnerships at Bowers & Wilkins, said: “We are delighted to continue our longstanding partnership with Volvo Cars as the supplier of High Fidelity audio systems for the new Volvo EX90.”
Javier Valera, Chief Operating Officer and Deputy Chief Executive Officer of Volvo Cars said: “For eight years Bowers & Wilkins has been a premium audio supplier to Volvo Cars, producing a range of highly acclaimed and highly successful solutions. For the new Volvo EX90, Bowers & Wilkins was a natural and obvious choice.”
The tweeter features an extremely thin aluminum double dome supported by a thicker ring to add stiffness and reduce distortion at the highest frequencies. Continuum midrange cones provide authenticity and precision in the midrange.
B&W’s Dolby Atmos-enabled audio system is enhanced with intelligent technology that allows listeners to customize the sound to suit their tastes. The studio mode reproduces the neutrality of the studio, the individual stage creates the feeling of an artist performing just for you, and the concert hall reproduces the acoustics of a Gothenburg concert hall.
