MOZILLA FIREFOX TO END SUPPORT FOR WINDOWS 7, WINDOWS 8 AND SOME VERSIONS OF MACOS IN JULY

The developers of the Mozilla Firefox browser have announced the imminent end of support for some older versions of Windows and macOS operating systems. As of April this year, Firefox, with a share of 2.53%, occupies only the fourth place in the popularity rating, behind Google Chrome, Safari and Microsoft Edge.

Web browser support for Windows 7, Windows 8, Windows 8.1, macOS 10.12, macOS 10.13, and macOS 10.14 will end in July this year. True, users of the above systems will be able to take advantage of the Extended Support Release (ESR) and Long-term Support (LTS) versions of the browser. Their support will end only in September 2024. According to the developers, OS owners will have enough time to switch to more recent operating systems, such as Windows 10 or 11. The company also explained that it will not work to use other browsers, for example, the same Google Chrome – they are supported in older Windows discontinued long ago.

There is a very good reason for this decision. Not so long ago, Microsoft officially ended support for Windows 7, Windows 8 and Windows 8.1 systems, so their continued use becomes unsafe.
