We recently talked about rumors regarding the GeForce MX 550, and recently Nvidia quietly presented this and two more video cards. True, the MX 550 turned out not to be what the rumors described it, but simply because the rumors actually described the MX 570.
In general, let’s start with the MX 550, as with the youngest. It is a direct successor to the MX 450 and is based on the same TU117 GPU. Only CIDA cores are now 1,024, which is even more than in the mobile GTX 1650. But do not rely on the same level of performance, since the core frequencies are lower and the bus is cut down to 64 bits. The card also has 2GB of 12GHz GDDR6 memory. And in 3DMark Time Spy, the card gives out 2500 points. This is slightly more than the mobile GTX 1050 Ti, which is not bad. But the same mobile GTX 1650 already has 3400 points.
And it is at the level of the mobile GTX 1650 that the new mobile RTX 2050 appears. Why it was attributed to the RTX 20 line, I don’t know, because in fact it is a stripped-down RTX 3050. Here is the same GPU GA107, the same 2048 CUDA cores, but the bus is only 64 bits … There is also 4 GB of memory at 12 GHz. GeForce MX 570 is about the same, but only 2 GB of memory and lower core frequencies (1155 MHz versus 1477 MHz). That is, the performance will be close, but still it will be lower for the MX 570.
What’s important is that the MX 570 and RTX 2050 have both RT cores for ray tracing and Tensor cores for DLSS. There will be some limited tracing here, but so far there are no details. And on a chip of this class it is rather a formality. But DLSS support just for basic adapters is very useful, as it will greatly increase performance.
In general, quite good basic adapters turned out. The only question is the price of the respective laptops, but we’ll see that when they appear. Well, there AMD at the beginning of the year is preparing new mobile APUs with GPUs on RDNA 2. It will be very interesting to see what the conditional Ryzen 7 6800U will be capable of in games with its integrated GPU.
