Edifier STAX Spirit S3: Wireless magnetic headphones using Audeze technology

The S3 headphones are the first model of the STAX Spirit series launched by Edifier. Which is not surprising, because for 10 years this Chinese audio company has been owned by the Japanese company STAX, known for its planar electrostatic headphones. Headphones Edifier STAX Spirit S3 are also planar, but they are made under license from another eminent manufacturer – Audeze LLC from California, USA.

Sufficiently large STAX Spirit S3 planar magnetic drivers, measuring 89 x 70 mm, are equipped with asymmetric Audeze Fluxor neodymium magnetic systems in a Fazor spatial configuration. They easily transmit sound with a minimum of phase distortion. Their level does not exceed 0.5%, in particular, due to the properties of the proprietary Uniforce membrane.

All this, along with electronics and a 1500 mAh lithium battery, is enclosed in a carbon fiber composite construction. With a mass of 329 g, Edifier Spirit S3 is able to work 80 hours after a full charge or 11 hours after a 10-minute charge. Connection is via a USB-C port.

Wireless connectivity in the headphones is provided by a Bluetooth 5.2 module with support for dual connection, Snapdragon Sound audio technology, as well as aptX, aptX HD, aptX Adaptive and SBC audio codecs. If the built-in battery is still discharged, the kit includes an Aux-in cable with a 3.5 mm jack and a 6.35 mm adapter for a wired connection. A MEMS microphone is used for telephone communication. In addition to the regular “solid” ear cushions, cooling mesh ear cushions made of lambskin have been added to the S3 headphones.

On the American site Edifier, the price of STAX Spirit S3 headphones was 400 US dollars (340 with a 15% discount).
