Shure has released an update to its flagship wired in-canal headphones. The original SE846s were released 10 years ago, and despite their age, were relevant until recently. The updated model offers improved “clarity of sound” and “transparency of sound”.

The Shure SE846 Gen 2 uses the same isolation design as the original and the same four-driver configuration. The new pair has what Shure calls a “new enhanced sound signature” thanks to the inclusion of a new filter. The originals came with three interchangeable filters, but at customer request, Shure added a fourth that adds “a more focused loop at 4kHz – 12kHz.”

The standard SE846 Gen 2 includes a filter that allows you to achieve a deeper landing, as well as Balanced, Warm and Bright filters that allow you to get a special sound for specific equipment and genres. As well as several attachment options to help you get the best possible fit.

The SE846 Gen 2 come with a detachable 3.5mm cable, and the use of MMCX connectors means you can turn them into wireless in-ear headphones with Shure’s optional True Wireless adapters.
