FiiO has released a new device , the R9 , which combines a streamer, digital-to-analogue converter, headphone amplifier and pre-amplifier .
The DAC unit in the model is built on a dual ES9038PRO chip from ESS Saber ; signals arriving at the USB port are processed by the XMOS XU316 processor . The headphone amplifier section includes the THX788+ module , providing output power up to 7000 mW into 32 ohms.
For connecting headphones there are three outputs: unbalanced 6.35 mm and two symmetrical – 4.4 mm and four-pin XLR. In addition to USB, there is also an HDMI (ARC) port for digital signal supply, plus two coaxial and optical inputs.
The body of the device is entirely made of aluminum; on the front panel there is a large color display measuring 6 inches diagonally and with a resolution of 1080 x 2160 pixels . Wireless capabilities, in addition to Wi-Fi, include a Bluetooth adapter with support for LDAC and aptX HD codecs . Device dimensions – 160 x 115 x 127 mm , weight – 2.27 kg.
