McIntosh Labs introduced an external DAC unit MDA200 , the main feature of which was the possibility of its hardware upgrade in the future. This is achieved through the use of a DAC module, which is offered as an option for the company’s integrated and preamplifiers. For example, now the novelty will be supplied with an installed McIntosh DA2 DAC module , which is also offered for the MA12000 integrated amplifier and the C2700 and C53 preamps. As new versions of this expansion module become available in the future, it will also be available for the McIntosh MDA200.
The DAC is currently based on an 8-channel, 32-bit DAC chip capable of processing PCM digital streams up to 384kHz sampling rate and DSD up to DSD512 via USB-B. When using coaxial or optical inputs, signal resolution is limited to 24 bit/192 kHz.
The switching arsenal of new items includes two coaxial ports, two optical ports, one USB-B port, one MCT (for connecting SACD / CD McIntosh MCT series disc transports), and an HDMI port with eARC audio return channel for connecting TVs. For switching with an amplifier, there are balanced XLR and unbalanced RCA analog outputs.
The McIntosh MDA200 DAC is Roon Tested certified by Roon Labs and can be integrated into the Roon Ecosystem. The design of the component is made in strict accordance with the McIntosh brand concept – polished black glass of the front panel, a green luminous logo, large black aluminum handles with a silver trim.
Pre-orders for the McIntosh MDA200 DAC are already being accepted. Deliveries are expected to start in November. Suggested retail price is $4,000 in the US and £4,995 in the UK .
