The British company Musical Fidelity has introduced a new external digital-to-analog converter Musical Fidelity M 3 x DAC in the budget segment of technology . According to Musical Fidelity, the M3x DAC combines “smart PCB design, optimal layout of a linear power supply on a toroidal transformer, and impressive performance . “
The new product uses many of the solutions developed for the older model M6x, providing functionality and sound quality close to the components of the M6 series, but at a more affordable price. The Musical Fidelity M3x DAC is based on the Burr Brown PCM1795 DAC chips and the Burr Brown SRC4392 sample rate converter, which upscales the digital signal to 24-bit/192 kHz, ensuring digital content playback with minimal distortion.
The component supports decoding of PCM digital streams up to 24-bit/192 kHz, as well as Native/DoP DSD up to DSD256. DSD files are played back as they are without upsampling. The Musical Fidelity M3x DAC’s switching arsenal includes unbalanced analog RCA outputs and balanced XLR outputs with separate output buffers for low output signal noise.
The Musical Fidelity M3x DAC power supply is based on a proprietary Super Silent Power Transformer toroidal transformer specifically designed for audio applications.
The Musical Fidelity M3x DAC is housed in a durable and tough metal case. The front panel is milled from an extruded aluminum plate, and the heavy steel case reliably protects internal components from external electromagnetic fields.
The external Musical Fidelity M3x DAC will be available in the UK from July 2023 for £1,349 .
