Oswalds Mill Audio has celebrated its coming of age with the release of the most powerful amplifier in its range, the Special K. Oswalds Mill Audio’s DNA is cinema loudspeakers and electronics from the 1930s, when vacuum triodes were in use, and amplifiers were placed in beautiful vertical racks . We returned to this configuration when developing our new, most powerful Special K amplifier .
In fact, Special K is an integrated amplifier, like all Oswalds Mill Audio amplifiers, that is, it does not require the use of a preamplifier for its operation, as it is equipped with four line inputs on RCA connectors with a selector and gain control.
The push-pull output stage of each channel is based on four KT88 beam tetrodes and operates in pure class A, providing up to 50 watts of power when driven into a load with a nominal resistance of 8 ohms. The input and driver stages are implemented on 6J5 / 6BX7 lamps. At the same time, the operating frequency range of the Oswalds Mill Audio Special K amplifier extends from 10 Hz to 85 kHz at a level of -2 dB – absolutely amazing numbers for a tube device.
The amplifier is equipped with Hoyt channel level indicators. The chassis is made of cast iron, while the body construction uses nickel and lacquered wood panels. The facade of the amplifier is covered with tempered glass, which, combined with the vertical layout, visually distinguishes Oswalds Mill Audio Special K from competitors. At 63.5 x 68.5 x 48 cm (width x height x depth), the Oswalds Mill Audio Special K amplifier weighs nearly 107 kg.
