Thorens has announced the imminent availability of the TD1600 and TD1601 turntables equipped with the new TP 160 tonearm .
The company’s first tonearm with blade bearings represents a major upgrade over the base TP92 model. Thorens TP 160 received a 9-inch aluminum tube and an SME connector for installing a removable headset. Magnetic stabilizers are additionally installed in the bearing block to ensure smooth movement.
The tonearm provides the user with everything needed for fine tuning, including base height adjustment to adjust vertical tracking angle (VTA) and stylus approach angle (SRA), as well as azimuth. The level of anti-skating is set by a traditional spring-based system, and a calibrated counterweight allows you to install even heavy cartridge heads weighing up to 30 grams on the tonearm.
The Thorens TD1600 and Thorens TD1601 turntables with the new TP 160 tonearm are scheduled to be available at the end of October 2023, with retail prices in Europe of €3,499 and €3,999 , respectively.
