San Francisco-based Framework company has unveiled a laptop with rich upgrade capabilities. According to the developers, in this way they managed to protect the product from obsolescence, to which computer technology is subject to a particular degree. The owner of Framework Laptop can independently modify the configuration of the computer and even repair the laptop by replacing standard nodes.
The laptop is dressed in a thin (15.85 mm) light (1.3 kg) body and is equipped with a display with an aspect ratio of 3: 2, a resolution of 2 256 × 1 504 pixels and a diagonal of 13.5 inches. The laptop is equipped with an 11th generation Intel Core processor ( Tiger Lake ). The DDR4 RAM can be up to 64GB, and the NVMe SSD can be up to 4TB.
The battery with a capacity of 55 Wh will provide long battery life. The built-in webcam has Full HD resolution and can shoot video at 60 frames per second. Wireless communication is provided by the latest specification 6E Wi-Fi adapter .
Returning to the customization options, first of all it is worth mentioning the possibility of installing expansion cards. You can add HDMI, DisplayPort, USB-C, USB-A, microSD and many more to your laptop configuration . In total, the laptop has four expansion slots.
But that’s not all! The device allows you to replace … the motherboard! Framework plans to release new motherboards for notebooks with up-to-date processors and chipsets in the future. Like many other models, the Framework Laptop can be swapped for RAM modules, which have two SO-DIMM slots , as well as an NVMe drive and a Wi-Fi adapter.
The cherry on top was the ability to replace the battery, display, keyboard, and bezel. QR codes printed on each of these components will help in this matter , by which you can quickly open a manual page with information on replacing a component and a list of compatible components in the Framework’s online store .
Company Framework proudly emphasizes that the laptop uses 50% recycled aluminum and 30% – recycled plastic. Computer packaging is made entirely from recycled materials. The laptop is offered in several basic configurations running the Windows 10 operating system. However, if you wish, you can purchase a set of components and assemble the laptop yourself.
The manufacturer promises to start shipping new items this summer.
