Apple in 2024 will begin the transition from IPS to OLED in laptops and tablets. The first devices with new screens will be the 13-inch MacBook Air and two iPad Pro with a diagonal of 11 and 12.9 inches. This was announced by the head of Display Supply Chain Consultants Ross Young in his twitter to paid subscribers.
Ross Young reports that all three cases will use a dual-layer OLED. This structure will make the displays brighter and more energy efficient. It is likely that this MacBook Air will be the first with ProMotion, that is, with an adaptive refresh rate up to 120 Hz.
Mr. Young did not name specific dates for the transition. But we can assume that both iPad Pro will be released sometime in the spring, and the new MacBook Air with a 13-inch display can be presented at WWDC 2024, a conference for developers, which traditionally opens in early June.
The focus on the screen size of the MacBook Air is necessary as Apple is or has been working on a 15-inch model. This was previously reported by authoritative insider Mark Gurman from Bloomberg. The presentation of the laptop may take place next year.
