Despite all sorts of improvements that manufacturers are introducing into their smartphones, the bottleneck is still their autonomy. Various software solutions and optimizations help maximize battery life. Last but not least, the Android operating system itself contributes to this. Developers from Google have added a new feature in Android 14 Beta 3 that can extend the battery life of a mobile device by dimming the wallpaper.
The first to notice this was the Android Police resource, which found a slight change in the battery saver mode. Now, when you activate the power saving mode, the background image on the main screen is automatically dimmed. In addition to that, the icons also appear to stand out with a slight darkening effect around the edges. The difference is very noticeable on light wallpapers, but if the picture itself is dark, then the effect is hardly noticeable.
The new feature works on Pixel smartphones, it turns on automatically and does not require the user to make any changes to the settings. Android 14 is currently in beta testing, so developers have early access to many new features. However, it is worth considering that not everything will work properly.
