ASUS also attended the CES 2024 conference by presenting new gaming smartphones: ROG Phone 8 and ROG Phone 8 Pro. True, the difference between the two models lies solely in the amount of memory. Otherwise, their technical characteristics are identical.
The new products are based on the top single-chip platform Snapdragon 8 Ge 3. It is complemented by 12 GB of LPDDR5x RAM for the basic version, and 16/24 GB for the PRO version. The amount of internal UFS 4.0 memory also varies: 256 GB for ROG Phone 8 and 512 GB or 1 TB for ROG Phone 8 Pro.
Both models received a 6.78-inch AMOLED with a resolution of 2400 × 1800 pixels, a refresh rate of up to 165 Hz and a peak brightness of 2500 nits. The developers report a screen sampling rate of 720 Hz, and the display itself is protected by Gorilla Glass Victus 2. A 32-megapixel selfie camera is installed on the front panel in a perforated hole.
The rear panel has a main camera unit with three sensors. The first is a 50-megapixel main camera, the second is a 13-megapixel wide-angle camera, and the third is a 32-megapixel telephoto lens. The battery capacity is 5500 mAh. This is less than the 6000 mAh of its predecessor, however, as the developers assure, thanks to the optimization of the hardware platform, the battery life remains at the same level. The smartphone supports 65W wired charging. Additional features include support for Bluetooth 5.3 and Wi-Fi 7 networks, moisture protection according to the IP68 standard, and the presence of an under-screen fingerprint scanner.
The basic version came in a single configuration with 12/256 GB of memory. It was valued at 1100 euros. The PRO version comes in two versions. The first one with 16 GB of RAM and 512 GB of ROM will cost buyers 1,200 euros. A version with 16 GB of RAM and 1 TB of internal memory can be purchased for 1,500 euros. The latter includes the AeroActive Cooler X cooler.
