Panasonic has released a firmware update for two full-frame cameras – Panasonic Lumix S5 II (2.2) and Panasonic Lumix S5 IIX (version 1.3). The firmware adds an AF point detection function, improves the manual focus assist system, as well as a high-resolution shooting mode.

So, the update brings the following innovations to the Panasonic Lumix S5 II and Panasonic Lumix S5 IIX cameras:

  1. AF-Point Scope function. It allows you to increase the focus position while operating in automatic mode.
  2. High resolution mode. In this mode, you can set the shutter speed to 8 seconds with noise reduction applied. Since the cameras are equipped with matrix image stabilization (IBIS), a “Handheld High-Res” mode has been added, which allows you to take pictures with ultra-high resolution even without a tripod.
  3. Improved manual focus assist. You can now magnify the full-screen image in MF Assist by approximately 20x for easier viewing.

Both firmware updates will be available free of charge starting October 24th on the Panasonic Lumix global customer support website – via the following link .

The Panasonic Lumix S5 II and S5 IIX cameras were officially presented in early January 2023. Both cameras can record 6K 30fps and C4K 60fps video to internal storage. The cameras are equipped with matrix 5-axis stabilization (IBIS). Both have an L-mount bayonet mount, which means the new products are compatible with a fairly extensive list of optics from Leica, Sigma and Panasonic.

The new products can also offer a hybrid phase detection autofocus system, dual native ISO, improved active stabilization, and a V-Log gamma curve. Prices start at $2,000.

In the future, Panasonic will introduce a new camera with advanced video shooting functions – Panasonic Lumix GH7 , which will receive hybrid autofocus. This camera will have advanced video capabilities, an improved matrix stabilization system (traditionally one of the most effective on the market), a rotating display, a compact and lightweight body, and now an advanced autofocus system.
