Ricoh Imaging introduced new compact camera , the Ricoh GR IIIx , an improved version of the model GR III, with non-removable lens 40 mm (35 mm equiv.) With F2.8 diaphragm matrix APS-C 24,24 Mn with the stabilizer on three axes and renewed processor GR Engine 6. Sales in will begin in mid-October 2021.

There is an opinion that smartphones have ousted compact cameras from the market. This may be partly true, but Ricoh engineers and marketers are of a different opinion, relying on the hi-end compact cameras of the GR series.

The 6000 x 4000 pixel APS-C sensor is equipped with a 3-axis stabilizer with 4 stops of exposure compensation, it is capable of recording 14-bit RAW images, provides a maximum sensitivity of ISO 102,400 and is equipped with a simulated anti-aliasing filter that can either be turned off or used in the usual or enhanced mode. The camera shoots video in Full HD with a bitrate of up to 60 fps in the H.264 codec.

New for the model, the 26.1 mm lens in terms of 35 mm equivalent provides 40 mm, the optical design consists of 7 elements in 5 groups, including two aspherical elements. The aperture is F2.8, 9-blade, it can vary from F2.8 to F16, the minimum focusing distance is 12 cm. Recall that earlier models of the GR line were equipped with an 18.3 mm lens (28 mm in 35 mm equivalent). The optional GT-2 teleconverter increases the focal state up to 75mm (35mm equivalent), it is specially designed for this model and is available separately. A built-in neutral gray (ND) filter with up to 2 stops of aperture compensation is provided.

Autofocus in the GR IIIx is hybrid – contrast and phase, face recognition works, while the compact is able to switch between the main and secondary object, which the operator can select by touching the touch screen in real time. The camera is ready for use in 0.8 seconds.

The GR IIIx features a 3-inch 1.04M-dot LCD touchscreen. There are wireless interfaces Wi-Fi and Bluetooth 4.2 LE, from the physical there is one USB-C port, which can be used both for charging the camera and for outputting DisplayPort Alternative Mode video via USB-C. The top of the camera has a hot shoe for connecting flashes, triggers and accessories. For those who prefer to frame their shots with the viewfinder, the GV-3 External Optical Viewfinder is available.

The GR IIIx uses the same DB-110 battery as the previous model, which the company says is capable of taking 200 shots and will ask for a charge. The camera body is made of high-strength magnesium alloy. Traditionally for the camera line, the GR IIIx has a large number of in-camera functions for editing footage, including in-camera RAW processing.
