Sigma has finally introduced a new telephoto lens for full-frame mirrorless cameras – the Sigma 70-200mm F/2.8 DG DN OS Sports. The manufacturer reports that the new product provides a stable and clear picture at all zoom and focusing ranges. The zoom system is designed in such a way that the lens does not change in size when changing focal length.
It became possible to achieve similar characteristics due to the optical design, which consists of 20 elements in 15 groups (6 FLD, 2 SLD, 3 aspherical elements). Available viewing angle available with the new lens: 34.3° -12.3°. The new Sigma 70-200mm F/2.8 DG DN OS Sports lens has an 11-blade aperture with rounded blades and a minimum value of F/22.
A new lens has been introduced for Sony E and L-mount cameras.
The minimum focusing distance is 65 cm (at wide angle) and 100 cm (at telephoto). Maximum magnification ratio: 1:5.2 (at a focal length of 200 mm). The lens weighs 1345 grams.
Separately, the company reports that the Sigma 70-200mm F/2.8 DG DN OS Sports lens has a minimal focus breathing effect and a very advanced updated image stabilization system. At a focal length of 70mm, the effectiveness of the stabilization system is estimated at 7.5 stops, and at 200mm – at 5.5 stops.
The official Sigma website provides examples of images taken using the new Sigma 70-200mm F/2.8 DG DN OS Sport lens:
The lens has a new AF system with dual HLA (High Response Linear Actuator). At the same time, a special OS2 algorithm from Sigma is supported.
Some published frames demonstrate the capabilities of the optical autofocus system:
Here’s another shot taken by testers using the new optics:
There is an aperture ring on the lens body, as well as a whole set of different switches: focusing mode (automatic/manual), focusing range (up to 3 meters, from three meters to infinity, and full), two operating modes of the image stabilization system, and custom mode for programmable buttons.
A proprietary black hood is supplied with the lens. The company published a video with the official presentation of the Sigma 70-200mm F/2.8 DG DN OS Sports:
Official pre-orders for the lens have already been opened in foreign online stores; its cost is $1,499.
