SJCAM introduced the SJ20 , an action camera with two lenses and camera modules that are designed for day and night shooting . SJCAM SJ20 allows you to shoot video in 4K, 2.5K and 1080p Full HD MP4 format with both h.264 and h.265 codecs, as well as photos with a resolution of up to 20 MP. 4K video is limited to 30p, 2K can shoot up to 60p, and Full HD can shoot at 120p.
SJCAM SJ20 – dual-lens action camera
The company claims that SJ20 is the world’s first action camera with two cameras, and here I just want to ask why no one has implemented this before? Indeed, all popular action cameras offer only one lens, some are compatible with various optical attachments, but the number of lenses in them is still equal to one. Many may ask the question – what is the purpose of two lenses in an action camera, to which the answer can be that for the same purpose as in a smartphone – to shoot at a wide angle, and on a moderate body, and on a telephoto lens, expanding the possibilities for creativity . We are rafting down a mountain river – we shoot at wide, we saw a beautiful sunset with a huge orange sun – we shoot with a telephoto, the happy faces of friends – at medium focal lengths. Everything is simple, convenient, and in one device, just press the button in time!
SJCAM SJ20 – dual-lens action camera
The second question is why SJCAM implemented something completely different, namely day and night cameras, remains a mystery, and it has not published any detailed information about the size of these sensors. Moreover, both lenses have a field of view of 135°, so the idea of a huge orange sun on a telephoto is a complete fiasco. The first lens is equipped with an f/2 aperture, the second – f/1.3, which is intended for day and night photography, respectively. The camera is unlikely to be able to shoot simultaneously on both cameras, at least there is no information about this. There is 8x digital zoom.
SJCAM SJ20 main screen
Putting aside the dual-camera issue, which is undoubtedly the highlight of the device, we have a very modern action camera that offers several shooting options, including motion detection, slow motion, pre-recording and time lapse. There are 2.4 and 5 GHz Wi-Fi interfaces, but for some reason nothing is said about the smartphone application.
The SJ20 is equipped with two screens: the main one is 2.29 inches and the front one is 1.3 inches. The main screen is touch-sensitive, so all controls here are touch-sensitive, and there are not many buttons on the body, only two on the top edge: to start recording and access the menu. Dimensions: 71 x 55 x 30 mm, weight not specified. There is a built-in microphone for recording sound, and there is a port for connecting an external one.
The camera is quite suitable for immersion in water – the SJ20 is waterproof to a depth of 5 meters, and with a special case you can dive to a depth of 40 meters. To stabilize the image there is a 6-axis gyroscope. The battery has a capacity of 800 mAh, which the company says will last about 2.5 hours of 4K shooting. And here the next miracles of marketing begin with additional accessories – with the help of an optional 1050 mAh external battery you can get a 7-hour figure, which costs $20, and it is connected to the bottom edge of the camera. A control handle with buttons and a capacious 4800 mAh battery is also offered; it can serve as a selfie stick.
Water immersion and camera power options
So, the vector of development has been found, and soon we will undoubtedly see other action cameras with two lenses from famous manufacturers.
