Sony ZV-1F: A compact camera made for vloggers

Sony has officially announced a rather unusual device – it’s the ZV-1F camera, which was created specifically for vloggers and various social media content creators. It’s worth noting that the company already has a camera called the ZV-1, but the new one with the “F” in the name has a wider range of features that come at a lower price. At the same time, the characteristics “on paper” of the camera are quite similar to the original camera. Probably, the Japanese company decided to focus on bloggers, but at the same time unify production to reduce costs.

For example, the ZV-1F camera is based on a CMOS sensor called Exmor RS – it boasts a resolution of 20.1 megapixels, which should be enough for video. It was this sensor that was installed in the ZV-1, so the quality of the content should be about the same. At the same time, the ZV-1F camera uses a fixed lens with a focal length of 20 mm with f / 2.0 aperture – due to this, the camera provides the content creator with a fairly wide viewing angle. This is great if the author shoots himself directly from his hand or from a special mount – due to the wide viewing angle, in addition to the person’s face, there will be plenty of background details in the frame.

The price of Sony ZV-1F is $500, sales should start before the end of this month.

The company even said that the ZV-1F camera is suitable for high-quality photography in daylight conditions, but most likely no one will do this. In addition, the new Sony camera has a built-in 3-inch swivel touchscreen display so that the content creator can compose, control focus and see themselves in the process of shooting. True, there are questions about the video quality itself – the camera can shoot video in 4K resolution only at 30 frames per second, while even mid-range smartphones shoot in 4K at 60 FPS. And given that this is a camera specialized for bloggers, this approach to content looks extremely unpresentable.

Among the interesting features of the product, it is worth highlighting the possibility of transferring recorded content directly to a smartphone via Wi-Fi or Bluetooth, which will greatly simplify the editing process. You can also live stream directly from the camera, record vertical videos for relevant social networks and use various advanced shooting modes. The camera design also provides a directional microphone, on top of which a windscreen is installed, but if desired, you can connect an external microphone via the 3.5 mm jack.

The cost of Sony ZV-1F is $500, sales should start before the end of this month.
