The latest version of the Google TV mobile app (formerly Play Movies & TV) has a new feature that allows you to control your Android TV television platform. The first to draw attention to it was the editor-in-chief of the XDA resource Mishaal Rahman. Despite the fact that this feature is not officially working yet, he managed to activate it manually to take a couple of screenshots.
As you can see in the images, the TV platform remote control interface in the Google TV app is extremely minimalistic. The screen houses a large D-pad with a round button in the center and arrows on the four sides that make it easier to navigate the Android TV interface on smart TVs. To control the system, you must first add a TV in the application by selecting it from the list of available ones. The remote control with control buttons should appear after successfully pairing the mobile device with the TV.
XDA tested the new feature on several devices, and it didn’t work on any of them. Most likely, Android TV remote control will be launched later and will replace the Android TV Remote Control application, which has not been updated in almost four years. It is possible that at launch, Google will add additional features such as support for voice input, touchpad and keyboard.
