Instagram users have long been able to access the service from a computer or even a tablet through a browser, but unfortunately there is no way to publish photos, videos or stories in the web version. This is expected to change soon as the company is currently working on an update to its website that will allow users to create posts right in the browser.
According to app developer and researcher Alessandro Paluzzi, the upcoming update will move the post creation tool from the mobile version of Instagram to the regular version. Paluzzi managed to enable the new feature on his profile using hidden methods, and he shared the result on Twitter.
Judging by the screenshots, the interface of the publish window has been changed. There was a preview of the content next to the post options. Users are given the opportunity to choose an image format, filter, and add a text description and location. Paluzzi did not say when the feature will become available to all Instagram users, but in any case, this is great news for owners of the iPad, which still uses the iPhone app.
Instagram’s CEO said last year that an iPad version of the app is not on the company’s plans, but the ability to post photos and videos from the site at least somehow solves that situation. Over time, developers are expected to add an option to post stories via the web version of Instagram.
