The popular media player VLC has received an important update. It now supports NVIDIA RTX VSR (Video Super Resolution) upscaling technology, which until now was only available in Google Chrome and Microsoft Edge browsers. To use VSR, you need to download the latest software from the developer’s website.
In work, the technology uses artificial intelligence algorithms and tensor cores of video cards. This combination allows you to improve the quality and sharpness of the video.
You can activate VSR in the NCP control panel. There, users have the opportunity to set one of four quality levels, where 1 is the lowest, 4 is the highest. Levels 3 and 4 use the most sophisticated algorithms to get the highest possible picture quality – up to 4K resolution. True, this requires significant GPU resources, so not all video cards will be able to cope with this task. The first two levels do not load video cards so much, but they provide a rather noticeable improvement in quality.
NVIDIA RTX VSR technology is available on the RTX 30 and RTX 40 graphics cards with driver package 531.18 WHQL and later installed.
