Russian hackers will sell source codes for Cyberpunk 2077 and The Witcher 3 at auction
CD Projekt announced yesterday that the source code for The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt , Gwent, and Cyberpunk 2077 had been stolen by hackers. The latter are now threatening to publish them – in the case of the digital CCG, the attackers have already done this and said that the next release should be expected tomorrow. In this regard, data trading has already begun on the relevant forums.
The data containing the source code for Thronebreaker: The Witcher Tales, The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, the enhanced version of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt and Cyberpunk 2077 is already up for auction. Hackers demand 0.1 bitcoin as a deposit – currently this amount is estimated at $ 4500, or more than 333 thousand rubles. Moreover, apparently, hackers from Russia: they announced that the auction will begin at 13:00 Moscow time.
The attack took place at a very difficult time for CD Projekt. In December, CD Projekt RED released the RPG shooter Cyberpunk 2077, which has been criticized for numerous bugs and lack of optimization on the old generation of consoles. The co-founder of the company last month made a public apology and promised to fix the mistakes within a year.
