One of the largest streaming services TIDAL has announced that it will soon begin streaming high-definition music in FLAC format as part of its HiFi Plus subscription . Before that TIDAL used this format for broadcasting in standard definition 16/44.1, and now the turn has come to high-res.
Whether this decision is related to problems with MQA Ltd , the format of which TIDAL used to broadcast tracks in high resolution, and which we talked about quite recently, is unknown, but the fact of switching to FLAC in itself will insure the service from possible problems. This is despite the fact that the MQA format is more efficient and better suited for streaming.
