Although LG Electronics has shown 97-inch OLED TVs on several occasions, on Monday the company finally announced its readiness to present a production model of the corresponding size at IFA 2022, which will be held from September 2 to 6 in Berlin. The company intends to consolidate its leadership in the premium TV segment and calls it “the largest OLED in the world.”

According to LG, the production model OLED evo Gallery Edition will be presented at the exhibition. It is expected that the novelty will go on sale in the fourth quarter of this year, during the peak autumn-winter holiday season, accompanied by massive purchases of consumer electronics and home appliances. With the advent of new items, LG’s OLDE TV family will include models with diagonals of 42, 48, 55, 65, 77, 83, 88 and 97 inches.

Against the backdrop of the impending economic crisis, manufacturers are betting on the premium segment, in which the drop in demand is likely not to be as significant as in more budgetary niches. In the segment where TVs start at $2,500, according to Omdia, Samsung currently dominates with a 53.6% share, LG is in second place with 21.5%, and Sony is third with 17.2%.

In the OLED TV niche, LG remains firmly in first place with 1.69 million units sold in the first half of the year, about 62% of all global OLED TV shipments during that period. It is known that in the first half of the year, OLED sales accounted for 33.2% of all LG TV sales.

Omdia predicts that OLED models will account for about 55% of the premium market this year and will grow to 66% by next year.
