LG UQ9000 (UQ90) Review: A decent budget 4K TV

LG has excellent televisions that have been standing out for their good quality for years, obviously there will be some better than others, although that depends on the range. This article is focused on the LG UQ9000 , a television that at first glance seems like a good option, however, we must analyze each aspect in detail to know if it offers the performance we require.

LG UQ9000 Review

Design

Every year televisions seek to change their aesthetics a little in order to be more attractive to users. We are facing the largest version of this model that gives us 75 inches . Considering this it seems to be an ideal television for large rooms and halls.

We must look for a good placement to take advantage of its appearance even more. A good idea would be to acquire the VESA support that usually facilitates placement, especially if we plan to place it on the wall . This position seems to us the best, since it improves the complete view of the television.

In addition, we will see a clean front that from our point of view ends up being the best aesthetically. This is because it implements slim bezels that provide an elegant look . Also note that the useful space of the screen will be 95% thanks to the thin frame they establish.

Unlike other models, this one has a less bulky back, so we get a slim-looking TV no matter the angle . Now we note that the only negative detail is that it has a simple construction with materials that feel fragile.

Connectivity

Like many similar models this one integrates three HDMI 2.0 which do a decent job connecting compatible devices. Likewise, it allows us to use two USB 2.0 that we can use to play content, although its main attraction is the possibility of recording it.

We find other interesting physical connections such as an Ethernet port , an optical audio output , a satellite input and an antenna . There will also be compatibility with DVB-T2/C/S2 tuners that are second generation and offer more complete channel scanning.

At the wireless level there will be no complaints either thanks to the Wi-Fi Direct connection that gives us access to the internet without having to use the network cable, so we can use the internet from a distance. Let’s not forget that this model has other valuable options such as Bluetooth and DLNA .

Image quality and functions in general

The LG UQ9000 delivers an acceptable image, which we cannot demand too much if we take into account its limitations. Despite this, it offers adequate optimization so that we are able to see practically any content, but we must consider certain details .

Firstly, it implements a 4K resolution that, due to its power, seeks to provide images with greater detail and realism. However, this is not fully achieved due to its Direct LED backlighting , which, since it does not have local dimming, usually has difficulties in very dark environments.

Of course, it also works with an IPS panel that, as its main benefit, gives us more complete viewing angles, that is, it maintains sharpness from any position. Unfortunately it also has negative points such as contrast and brightness with less exposure level.

It may seem like a difficult problem, however, we find important enhancement technologies that improve essential parameters such as color , contrast , brightness and saturation . There won’t be many options either, but they do improve the quality for a better experience.

It also has compatibility with HDR10 Pro and HLG , two formats that stand out for improving content, although to notice the work it must be compatible. Finally, it has a frequency of 60 Hz that usually works well, except in content that presents very fluid movements.

Sound

It seems to us another of its weak points, and not precisely because the audio is bad, but because a model of these dimensions requires at least a little more power . The problem is that its two speakers only reach 20W, which turns out to be the usual within the mid-range.

As happens in the image, what ends up saving the sound is that it includes important technologies such as AI Sound , Clear Voice Pro , Dolby Digital and LG Sound Sync for a more immersive experience. However, we believe that it is best to acquire a sound bar.

Analysis of the software / Smart TV and more notable features

The best way to end the review of the LG UQ9000 is to talk about the good operating system it offers. This is exclusive to LG and offers us the most recent version, therefore, we enjoy the improvements they have applied, which stand out in optimization and security.

In addition, it now has a more extensive catalog of applications thanks to the addition of the new options that currently stand out. Another benefit is the inclusion of Google Assistant and Alexa that provide a complete experience thanks to the fact that we can control functions with our voice.

In case you have an iPhone, iPad or Mac, you can use the Apple AirPlay or Apple Homekit application to transmit any type of content and even control smart devices. It offers a game mode, although the experience is not as good as we expected.
