Philips has finally released its new televisions, which have generated interest since their introduction, as they seem to be better options for all available categories. On this occasion we want to talk about the Philips PUS8887, a television that at first glance does not seem to have many new features, but when we go into the features section we notice valuable details, although for obvious reasons there will be negative points, therefore, we invite you to continue reading this article to know in detail what this equipment offers.

Philips PUS8887 exterior design

PUS8887 Looks really good

PUS8887 Looks really good

Aesthetically we have a nice TV that has good details in its design in general

The aesthetics provided by the Philips 65PUS8887 seems acceptable to us, yes, we notice that it does not present many changes compared to previously seen versions. This detail could seem somewhat negative, but we are talking about an aspect that has aged in a good way and seems appropriate to us.

It should be noted that its dimensions are 842.2 x 1450.5 x 170 mm for a 65-inch TV . These data indicate that it will be a good option if you have large rooms or halls. We noticed that it integrates correctly and gives a better view regardless of the angle from which it is viewed.

We think it is a good idea to acquire the VESA support, a tool that increases the depth of the television, but does not change much the space we need. As for the weight, we find 24.5 kilograms, thus being a somewhat heavy equipment , therefore, extra help is required for its placement.

Being a mid-range model, the construction materials are of a regular quality, that is, it is not bad, but it is not the best either, therefore, we must be careful when trying to move the television. It has a black chassis that usually integrates well with the environment .

We would have preferred to have a variety of colors, but for now this is only available for the 8887 series. Reviewing in detail, we define that the front has the most attractive in terms of aesthetics due to its  thin bezels  capable of generating elegance from any angle.

In addition, having a thin frame allows the useful space on the screen to be greater. The rear part is nice as it does not have such a large bulky space , so we have an overall slim TV that has better integration in any environment.

Connectivity

Surely it is the most interesting section, which does not turn out to be anything common. At least not for the mid-range that has almost always handled simple connectivity . But in this television we find connectors that greatly improve the experience when using them.

The first thing to note is that it has four  HDMI inputs  that most possibly know their functions, but if this is not the case, it allows us to connect external devices such as consoles, computers, laptops and players to transmit their signal directly to the television.

The most interesting thing is that two entries have version 2.1 that improves performance by providing a better experience in terms of quality. In addition, we can make use of two USB ports ,  but as in the previous case, one is version 3.0, generating other types of qualities .

The difference from the previous version is that the data transmission feels smooth, which helps a lot regarding the functions that can be used through these ports. For example, we can connect compatible units and play photos, videos and even music.

However, the biggest attraction seems to us the possibility of recording content , which can be viewed at any time, although a unit of at least 80GB will be necessary. We found more interesting physical connections that you can see in the specifications table.

Right there you can check the compatible tuners. Now let’s talk about the wireless issue that is not far behind in terms of redeeming itself because it offers  dual-band  Wi  -Fi  and  Bluetooth 5.0 , two options that improve the experience by avoiding the use of many cables.

Image quality and functions in general of the Philips 65PUS8887

It seems to us that the most important aspect is found in the image offered by the Philips 65PUS8887/12, which we must find regular for reasons that we will mention. First of all, we have a 4K resolution that by power seeks to give visual details with a certain realism.

The bad thing ends up being the inclusion of a  Direct LED backlight that unfortunately does not have local dimming, which these days seems very necessary for a deeper visual experience. The lack of such technology makes the TV struggle.

It is worth mentioning that it has a  VA panel , which provides some advantages regarding the image. Among the most striking we have better levels in terms of contrast and brightness, so that the blacks and whites are slightly deep. Also, there will be no obvious light leaks.

However, we found colors to be displayed less faithfully and accurately. Another detail to keep in mind is that the viewing angles are not the best, but thanks to the integration of certain technologies, the final result improves a bit and we see a better image.

These functions focus your work on essential parameters such as color, contrast, brightness and even saturation. The change will not be incredible, but we did notice a slight difference that turns out to be positive. Also comment that it has compatibility with  HDR10 + ,  HLG  and  Dolby Vision .

Sound

The power in the speakers does not seem to be adequate because it only includes 20W,  which is still normal in the mid-range , however, we note that most current content requires higher quality so that we can at least hear clearly and accurately. .

What saves the sound is the inclusion of several technologies that provide an immersive  and  precise experience , especially in the dialogues and the ambient sound that, as a rule, is what most affects this category due to the little audio available. Therefore, it does not become negative.

Analysis of the software / Smart TV and more notable features

180 techweek

It has the most recent version of Android, a system that is considered among the best for its features

The Philips 65PUS8887  looks like a well-equipped television, obviously its operating system is not far behind and we have Android TV in version 11 that stands out for many reasons. The main one is that it offers the Play Store  with more than 7,000 applications that are constantly updated.

In addition to that, we can download music, games and rent movies to enjoy on the TV without much complication. It offers compatibility with  Google Assistant  and  Alexa , two assistants that stand out for facilitating certain actions, and this is because we can control them using only our voice.

It includes an internal memory of 16 GB so you can install a good number of applications without complications. This model turns out to be an attractive option to play thanks to its frequency rate at  120 Hz , likewise, it offers AMD FreeSync Premium ,  Auto Game Mode  and  Auto Latency Mode .

Finally, mention that it includes Ambilight technology  that offers us a different experience when viewing content, since it is a function that transmits LED lights on the sides depending on the content we see, so the content is better integrated.
