If you want to take full advantage of Mini LED, then the TCL Q10G could be one of the best options. MiniLED and LED backlight sources are LEDs. Mini LED is micron level LED with LED chip size from 50 to 200 microns. Thanks to this, many more light crystals per unit area can be embedded in the backlight panel.

The TV comes with several handy features, including a Google Assistant-like voice assistant, built-in game mode, support for most streaming services, and Google Cast and Apple AirPlay for streaming from mobile devices. In the review of TCL 75Q10G 4K HDR TV as a representative of the series, we will consider all the features of this model.

TCL Q10G Review

Design

In terms of appearance design, TCL 75Q10G TV continues the simple and atmospheric style, using a metal full-screen design similar to other products in the series, with a high screen area ratio and many texture details. Similar to TCL C835, the body is made of metal with a surface drawing process, and the four corners are formed with a solid bent.

With the exception of the 85-inch version, which uses legs on both sides, the rest of the Q10G series uses an Edifier-designed stand that connects to the bottom of the case’s center. The surface of the completely flat base is also made of metal and uses a matte silver textured pattern. The stand has a cable clip.

At the bottom of the case, which is thicker than the other three frames, the TCL logo, status indicators and remote control signal sensors are concentrated. TV TCL Q10G is equipped with a new remote control. You can see that the overall contour is more rounded, which improves grip. At the same time, the buttons are rearranged and shortened, and the surface of the remote is made of materials with increased friction.

Image quality

The connection between the number of backlight brightness control zones and image quality is obvious to everyone. In this parameter, the TCL Q10G model is not inferior to similar TVs. The 75-inch version uses Mini LED dot-matrix light control technology , and 90 groups of driver chips form 360 light control zones. At the same time, the brightness can reach 1000 nits, and the dynamic contrast ratio is 10,000,000: 1. The 55-inch, 65-inch, and 85-inch numbers of zones reach 240, 288, and 488, respectively, which is much more than other TVs.

In addition to increasing the number of zones for the TCL Q10G, the backlight module manufacturing process has also been upgraded. For mini LED panels, it is very important to reduce the heat output of the LEDs. In addition to effectively improving current stability, increasing brightness uniformity, it can also extend the life of the TV. Up to 92% backlight uniformity and 30% improved heat dissipation are the benefits of the new Q10G panel technology.

Real measurements show that this Q10G Mini LED TV can achieve a maximum brightness of 1065 nits in HDR content. In the standard SDR picture mode, the brightness measured by several test points also exceeds 800 nits. The high brightness characteristics of the Q10G provide good image dynamics, but for contrast enhancement, the brightness of its dark areas is more important.

The average brightness measured around the bright part, which is called the halo brightness, is 0.07 nits, while the brightness of the dark part at a distance is only 0.02 nits. Such control of the dark part of the scene can ensure that there is no serious halo around the bright areas of the screen, like the similar TCL C845 TV with a large number of zones.

In terms of screen, TCL Q10G series adopts high-performance 4K@120Hz VA CSOT matrix, 98% DCI-P3 wide color gamut, 1.07 billion colors, and achieves a DeltaE of about 0.99. This means almost professional color accuracy. The screen is also TUV Rheinland certified for low blue light and uses 16kHz ultra-high frequency PWM backlight dimming technology to eliminate harmful low-frequency flicker. All HDR standards are supported, including Dolby Vision IQ and HDR10+.

Smart TV

Lingyao M1 quad-core processor (ARM Cortex-A73 x 4 1.3 GHz) with 4 GB of RAM and 64 GB of internal memory, as well as Mali-G52 GPU, is enough for a responsive and smooth operation of the TCL TV android system. Applications are best installed through Google Home, which will save you many problems with logging into your TCL account.

The operating system places a lot of emphasis on sponsored content, which is placed in the center of the screen. Below it is a list of personal recommendations. Conveniently, you can find the latest signal source on the far left of these recommendations. At the bottom of the screen are your favorite apps that you can personalize.

Further, Android by TCL provides many recommendations by category (sci-fi shows, thrillers, etc.). These categories are based on your viewing habits and content comes from various streaming services (Apple TV, Prime Video, Disney+, and more). You can also request the deletion of streaming services that you do not use. In addition, TCL TV offers a fairly wide range of applications.

Voice control is implemented both with the remote control and without it using the built-in microphone of the TCL Q10G TV. The range of this option reaches 12 m. There is an option for fast screen projection using NFC technology. No matter what OS the smartphone is running, by touching the TCL NFC tag, the phone screen can be fully displayed on the big screen TV.

Game Mode

It is worth noting that the 75Q10G TV uses an 8ms response rate panel, which supports 4K 120Hz performance well. Compared to previous series, TCL Q10G has added MEMC motion compensation option to picture settings. By inserting a black border, content with a frame rate other than 120 is aligned with the refresh rate of the TV to improve the clarity of the moving picture.

The chip supports 120Hz VRR variable refresh rate, which is great for gaming. The TV will automatically enter game mode when the latest generation game console is connected. To ensure the lowest display lag in games, it is better to use the “Performance” value for the Refresh Rate setting. The Game Master and Game Bar features show frame rate information and give you access to various in-game settings.

Sound

In terms of sound effects, the Q10G is a multi-speaker surround sound system with 40W of total power and support for Dolby Atmos. Software-optimized audio allows you to create a global sound field using artificial intelligence. It can identify spatial structure by capturing reflected sound and create user-specific immersive sound effects.

IMAX Enhanced is also supported. It is a home theater solution co-created by IMAX and DTS. It features vibrant colors, higher contrast, larger format, better clarity, stunning picture quality, and amazing sound effects that can enhance your viewing experience.

Connections

Q10G is equipped with three HDMI2.1 ports. Of course, we all know that this is the revised definition of the HD Alliance. Only one of them supports 48Gbps full speed transmission and can be connected to next generation host or PC to enable 4K@120Hz signals. The other two HDMI ports (one with eARC ) can be used to connect peripherals such as set-top boxes and soundbars. In addition, there are two USB 2.0 ports, analog AV input, LAN port, antenna jack and digital audio output. Wireless – Dual band WiFi6 and Bluetooth.

Conclusion

Overall, the TCL Q10G has great backlight performance. Q10G faces competing products at the same price or even higher spec products. Mini LED backlight technology has entered the mature stage. With the improvement of key functional parameters such as the number of backlight zones, brightness and color gamut, Q10G TV will show picture quality far superior to that of LCD TVs and compete with OLED TVs due to its advantages in peak brightness, price, etc. This TCL Q10G will be one of the best buys.
